Caffè Cagliari meets Singapore kopi

16 Jun 2015

For the first time, “coffee royalties” from two cultures, two countries and two continents, are joining forces to take Singapore by storm.

OWL Beverage Specialist (OBS), a subsidiary of well-known local coffee brand OWL International, has been appointed the sole distributor of Italian heritage coffee brand Caffè Cagliari’s products in Asia. Caffè Cagliari, which has been around for more than a century, also intends to make Singapore its regional distribution hub.

The tie-up will see Caffè Cagliari’s full range of products made available in Singapore and Asia. This ranges from traditional whole beans and coffee grounds to more modern offerings like capsule coffees and machines. There will also be biscuits, coffee sweets and sorbet. To top it off, OWL will introduce Singapore’s first Cagliari Café franchise. This East-West combination promises to enthrall Asia. It brings together some 150 years of coffee-making experience, from the Brazilian roots of Caffe Cagliari to the Straits Asian beginnings of OWL.

The OWL brand of coffee carries with it five decades of heritage, establishing itself as a household name in South-east Asia through the region’s development in the second half of the 20th century. Families from Penang to Malacca, from Singapore to Jakarta, have kept faith with the traditional brand for years. And from Modena in northern Italy, Caffe Cagliari has earned a century-old reputation as a brand to be relied on for authenticity, allure and aroma. It has its roots in Brazil, where founder Ambrogio Cagliari first learnt the trade of coffee roasting. Now, in the hands of third and fourth generation Cagliari, it is fitting that the journey first taken from Latin America to Europe will now reach Asia. The aroma of marquee Italian coffee will soon waft across malls, cafes and shops in Asia, through the hands of a trusted Asian brand. Coffee history is in the making.
